Faith isn't just about belief; it's about action. As James 2:26 reminds us, faith without corresponding actions is lifeless and unproductive. It's about living out our beliefs and allowing them to transform our lives. In this article, I want to share my journey of reconnecting with my faith through work, and how it has led me to a place of greater purpose and fulfillment.
In the summer of 2023, my life took an unexpected turn when my employment situation changed suddenly. While I had anticipated a transition, I hadn't anticipated the challenges that lay ahead. Despite my efforts to secure new employment, months passed with no success. As the holiday season approached, financial worries added to the stress of the situation.
During this time of uncertainty, I experienced a personal loss when my brother-in-law, also my bishop, passed away. His passing prompted me to return to church, initially to support my sister, but it was there that I found solace and strength in my faith. I realized that I was tired of merely existing and decided to rededicate my life to Christ.
Turning to prayer, I sought God's guidance for a new career path. Additionally, I took a proactive step toward my future by returning to school to pursue my associate's degree. Despite facing challenges along the way, including academic setbacks, I remained steadfast in my faith and commitment to moving forward.
Through the ups and downs of my journey, I've learned that faith isn't just a passive belief—it's an active choice to trust in God's plan and take steps toward a better future. By reconnecting with my faith through work, I've discovered a newfound sense of purpose and resilience.
If you're facing challenges or uncertainties in your own life, I encourage you to take action and lean into your faith. Trust that God has a plan for you, and take steps towards realizing it. As James reminds us, faith without action is lifeless—so let's choose to put our faith into action and see where it leads us.
